The topography of this dive site is a fantastic playground for marine life and features extensive growths of soft corals, tunnels between hard corals, gorgonian sea fans catching nutrients from the currents, and a spectacular pillar collar. The currents mean this can be a fantastic dive destination for a drift dive. This dive site has an enormous range of healthy corals in a range of corals. There are soft, and hard coral growths covering the underwater landscape. The thriving reef is also teeming with schooling fish along with reef fish. The Superior Producer is the best wreck dive in the Caribbean and is at a depth of 100 ft (30m). The 200 ft cargo ship sunk in 1977 and now has become a beautiful artificial reef attracting marine life from the deep blue. Divers can enter the cargo holds and swim around the interior of the wreck. One of the high lights is the wheelhouse which is at a depth of 80 feet. Since the wreck has been sitting on the sand for almost fifty years it has grown a microcosm of reef life on top of it. Walk along the edge of the rock until you get to a small hidden beach called Playa Guepi to picnic and swim. It is a magical hike and well worth the effort. Over the hill find a large natural sea geyser carved into the coral. Watch the sea waves explode through the bottom of the rocks in large and small holes across the beach. Up from the Watamula natural sea geyser is a moon landscape that visitors have made into a pebble balancing beach. Hundreds of rock piles line the sea line. Build one and make a wish. On the way back, stop at the Noordpunt Lighthouse, also known as the Northern Point Lighthouse on the hilltop. Built in 1884 and was used to help guide ships around the northern tip of Curaçao. It was in operation for many years before being decommissioned in 1963. The lighthouse is open to visitors daily from 9am to 4pm. It is an active synagogue and allows participants to attend Shabbat services on Friday night and Saturday morning. They immediately ordered the construction of a fort at the mouth of the Sint Anna Bay. Slaves brought from Angola built the fort. The fort was designed with three meter wide walls. In 1804, a cannonball fired at the fort hit the fort’s church. The route takes you along a dirt road through the cacti and wild wabi in Watamula and up the hill to Lighthouse Noordpunt. The Noordpunt Lighthouse offers stunning views of the rugged northern coastline of Curaçao, which is known for its rocky cliffs and crashing waves. It is particularly beautiful in the morning at sunrise. (The lighthouse was built in 1884 and was used to help guide ships around the northern tip of Curaçao. It was in operation for many years before being decommissioned in 1963.) Cliff Villa to Watamula Hole & Playa Gipy: A 5-kilometer loop that starts at Cliff Villa Peninsula to Watamula. The hole is about 10 meters (33 feet) in diameter and drops down more than 60 meters (200 feet) into the water below - don’t slip. Just down a path from the hole is a secluded cove called Playa Gipy, surrounded by cliffs and cacti, and can only be accessed by a rocky dirt road. It is beautiful and a great place to rest after a run. Cliff Villa to Shete Boka National Park: This 7-kilometer route (one way) starts in at the Cliff Villa Peninsula and takes you to the Shete Boka National Park. The route passes several scenic viewpoints and includes some challenging uphill sections. Knip Beach Loop: A 5-kilometer loop that starts at Playa Kenepa Grandi (Knip Beach). The route takes you along the coast, passing Playa Kenepa Chiki (Small Knip Beach) and several scenic viewpoints. The loop includes some moderate uphill sections and offers stunning views of the ocean and surrounding hills. Christoffel National Park Trail: Although far, it is worth it. The park offers several trails for jogging, ranging from easy to challenging. Walk along the edge of the rock until you get to a small hidden beach called Playa Guepi to picnic and swim. It is a magical hike and well worth the effort. See drone video here Over the hill find a large natural sea geyser carved into the coral. Watch the sea waves explode through the bottom of the rocks in large and small holes across the beach. Up from the Watamula natural sea geyser is a moon landscape that visitors have made into a pebble balancing beach. Hundreds of rock piles line the sea line. Build one and make a wish. On the way back, stop at the Noordpunt Lighthouse, also known as the Northern Point Lighthouse on the hilltop. Built in 1884 and was used to help guide ships around the northern tip of Curaçao. It was in operation for many years before being decommissioned in 1963. The lighthouse is open to visitors daily from 9am to 4pm. There is a small admission fee. The building was once the island's most largest plantation and now a symbol its dark past as a slave trading hub for the Caribbean. Kenepa was the site of a devastating, month-long slave rebellion in 1795, led by a hero named Tula. The Landhuis Kenepa has been made into a museum dedicated his bravery. The museum tells the story of how Tula traveled from Kenepa liberating enslaved people across the island, until he was captured and killed by the Dutch authorities. Often remote-and-wild does not align with fast internet. Any destination that has the word luxury in their meta tag needs to focus on fast-and-furious internet connections. Cliff Villa, for example, is the last house on the far west point of the island. While breathtaking, it was a challenge to set up high speed internet connectivity for the roaming city-goer. Curacao does not have the fastest internet connectivity to start with and being on the edge of the island makes it all the more challenging. Eventually, after much trial and error, we set up a microwave relay dish on the house and directed it to a Digicel cell tower in the valley. Now with blazing upload and download speed for the island, there are other most subtle issues to consider. While post-Covid revenge travel is on the horizon working remotely with the vista of blue azure sea can also make your work colleagues green with envy.
