What to Bring
Pack light — the villa has more than you'd expect.
What's Already Here
Besides the obvious beach wear and sun protection, pack hard-bottom sandals — thorns can occasionally push through if you go off the path.
The villa has professional snorkeling gear in the brown wicker box in the kitchen, Nikon Pro 10×42 binoculars for birdwatching, and a world-class library — hardback novels, children's poetry, and art books in perfect condition.
Getting Here
From the airport to the villa — including a recommended stop on the way.
The Drive North
On the way from the airport, stop at Centrum Supermarket — just 7 minutes from arrivals. It has excellent fresh vegetables, wine, cheese, and meat. The South African Fleur du Cap Pinotage and Cabernet is delicious and affordable. For upscale wine, stop at Carrefour at Sambil Mall.
The villa has all essential spices. Do not buy fish — you'll buy it fresh off the boats near the villa.
When you see the wind turbines, you are home.
If you need the fridge stocked on arrival, send Gary your shopping list and he will arrange it.

Airport Taxi & Electric Car
Gary can arrange a taxi driver to pick you up at the airport — who will wait while you stock up at Centrum supermarket on the way to the villa.
At the villa, you can rent the new 5-seater electric car for $75 per day or $450 per week. For security, there is a small switch under the driver's seat — click it down when locking the car (kills the engine) and up when you return.
Arrange via WhatsAppArrival
You're almost there. Here's how the last few steps work.
You're Home
-
Security Gate: When you arrive at the PUNTA KALKI gate, the security team will be expecting you. Gary will have introduced you via WhatsApp. Tell them you're going to "Gary's Villa." They will give you a clicker for the gate. Return the clicker when you check out.
-
Lockbox: The keys are in the lockbox in the garage. Code: 0018. You'll find two keys — the notched key opens the outside side doors in the lower bedrooms. The other key opens the front door and all rooms. Please latch all doors so wind doesn't slam them. Return keys to the lockbox (and spin the numbers) whenever you leave the villa.
-
First Call: Call Gary when you walk through the door and he will give you a full tour of your new home.
The Villa
Doors, power, water, kitchen — everything you need to know about your home for the week.
The Doors
By the pool there are two electronic doors. To open, hold the up button for a few seconds and it will open automatically. To close, hold the down button continuously — do not place anything in the door's path or the sensor will stop and reverse it.
- You can open the bifold facing the garden — but close it when you leave as the wind can gust.
- Do not open the bifold facing the Watamula preservation area — the wind is too strong for these doors.
- Important: The wind can be very strong. All exterior doors you open must be secured. Unsecured doors can fly shut and the glass will break.
- You can leave pool doors open at night for the breeze — and simply lock the bedroom doors for privacy.
Power & Voltage
Most outlets are 220 volts. The outlets in the kitchen and living room with a flush inner US socket are 110 volts.
- Most modern electronics (phones, laptops) work on both 110v and 220v — check your device.
- Do not plug 110v-only devices into 220v outlets — they will burn out.
- Do not move kitchen appliances from their current 110v outlets to 220v — they will burn out.
- 220v to 110v step-down transformers are available in most downstairs rooms for your 110v devices.
- All power comes from our solar panels and wind turbines. Please switch off A/C and fans when leaving the room — solar panels need to recharge.
Air Con & Fans
Temperatures range 27–32°C. It's a dry heat — wind and shade are the best remedy. If you use air conditioning, keep the doors and windows closed. There are commercial-grade fans throughout the villa.
Please switch off A/C and fans when not in the room. The solar panels need to recharge during the day.
Water & Showers
Curaçao is a desert island — please take short showers and avoid wasting water. Hot water is solar-heated, so the tank may run low if you take long after-dark showers.
Do not use hot water at the kitchen sink — it draws from the shower tank.
Shower knobs: Top knob — left is handshower, center is off, right is overhead shower. Bottom knob — left is hotter, right is cooler.
The Kitchen
A fully stocked professional kitchen with Panini grill, professional blender, and a professional gas stove. Please turn the Panini grill off when finished, and do not move appliances from their current plugs.
- Gas stove: Perpendicular = off · Parallel = on. Open the gas and light the pilot at the same time. The pilot should always be on — if it goes out, simply relight it.
- LED table lamps: Tap the top to turn on. Move your finger around the top to dim. Chargers are in the kitchen between the two bifold doors.
- Smart refrigerators: Knock on the glass door to see inside without opening (door-in-door technology). For items in the inner fridge, use the bottom handle.
TV, Music & Games
The Google Speaker in the main room responds to voice commands. Say "Hey Google, play [your tune] on Spotify" and it will play on both speakers simultaneously. Try: "Hey Google, play Stan Getz on Spotify."
- 86" LG Television: Loaded with Netflix and entertainment channels. Press MENU on the remote to navigate to Prime, YouTube, etc.
- Kids' room TV: Google-powered. Has PrimeVideo and other channels. Use your personal login to purchase movies.
- Games: Settlers of Catan, backgammon, dominos, marble solitaire, giant Jenga, cards and more — in the island table near the large TV. Pickleball paddles and balls in the basket under the TV.
